The Ottawa & National Branch of the Liverpool FC Supporters’ Club has been active for many years and convenes at The Georgetown Pub to watch Liverpool matches and support the team from afar. We are an official member of the Liverpool FC AIB (Association of International Branches). The Supporters’ Club is a non-profit organization, relying on the support of its members to exist and on volunteers to function.

Membership costs $20, $5 of which is donated to the Hillsborough Justice Campaign (HJC). HJC is dedicated to ensuring that those responsible for the 96 deaths are held accountable and that the memory of the 96 is not forgotten.

• Why should I join?

First and foremost, because you are a Liverpool fan. The club exists to provide a friendly environment to watch Liverpool matches on television, meet fellow Liverpool fans from Ottawa, the National Capital region and from around the world and provides a forum to celebrate and commiserate recent performances.

• Any other reasons?

Well, ever wanted to go to Anfield? The Supporters’ Club can acquire tickets for home matches. You will (of course) have to pay for them, but you pay cost price and don’t have to go and meet a dodgy tout called Arnold in a dark recess of Stanley Park, hand over a wad of fivers and find out that you are watching the game from the McDonald’s restaurant. This service (getting the tickets, I mean, not watching from McDonald’s) is only available for fully paid up members of the club.

Please submit all ticket requests to greatrednorth@gmail.com including your full name, all pertinent contact information, full details of the match you wish to see, the number of tickets you require & your credit card details.

• Go on…

There’s an on line discussion group, our dedicated great red north blog, plans to bring former Liverpool players to Ottawa for evenings of talks, autograph signing, do-you-remember-whens and photo opportunities. The more people that join, the more we can plan. For example, it’s rumoured that Liverpool FC is planning to tour North America next season? Do you really think they’d come and there wouldn’t be a trip down to watch them? The more people that are with us, the easier it all becomes to plan. What more do you want?

• Do I really need to pay $20?

Yes you do. The money goes to the upkeep of the web site and to pay for all administrative costs. As I said, the Supporters’ Club is non-profit making, so anything left over will be given back to members or will be put towards an end-of-year or end-of-season dinner. That choice is up to members - because after all, you decide; it’s your club.

• Okay, you win, how, where, when do I pay?

Those of you that have paid don’t need to pay again! The 2006-2007 membership will run until the start of the 2007-2008 season. The easiest way to pay is via PayPal at ID: dara@canada.com or, should you not have PayPal access or be unable to nip down to The Georgetown on occassion, you can send a cheque for $20 to Dara Mottahed at the following address:

The club is open to everybody - even if you are only in Ottawa once a year, join up. The more, the merrier.
