Villa to go up for auction

David Villa has alerted a host of Premier League clubs by revealing he will consider leaving Valencia at the end of the season.

The Spain international has been made to endure a harrowing season at El Mestalla, with club stalwarts Santiago Canizares, David Albelda and Miguel Angulo tossed to the scrap-heap – prompting legal action in the case of Albelda.

Valencia are also nowhere near qualifying for next season’s Champions League, a stage that is made for a man who has scored on his past five visits to Barcelona’s Camp Nou.

Chelsea have been long-term admirers of Villa while Liverpool have often been linked with forming the Spanish dream partnership with Fernando Torres, and now it appears a mega-money auction could kick off after Euro 2008.

“At the moment, I am focused on Valencia and then the European Championships,” stated Villa.“But when the season ends I will think about my future and listen to all offers.

“I have always decided to do the best thing for me, in consensus with the club because I have a contract.”

Villa has netted just eight league goals this season, but he has a record of 48 in 92 league appearances in his Valencia career.
